Personal use:
Thieves™ essential oil is one of my all time favorite oils and has kept me well for years. In fact, I have hardly been ill since I started using it in 1996. In the earlier days of Young Living, we did not have the myriad options that we now have. Thieves was my main oil of choice that I traveled with and used on my family to keep us well.
How I use Thieves:
Topically:
Always dilute Thieves with a carrier oils such as Young Living's V-6, a vegetable oil blend, as Thieves contains cinnamon and clove essential oils, which are hot on the skin if used undiluted. I put a small amount of carrier oil in the palm of my hand, add a few drops (4-5 drops) of Thieves, mix it with my finger and apply it over throat and neck area, over the thymus gland (heart chakra), over the lungs or stomach area if needed, and back of the neck and shoulders. It is warming and soothing, and I always feel strengthened when I use it. It can be applied to the bottom of the feet as well. I have even known people to use if after chemotherapy cancer treatment, and felt very strengthened by it!
(Cara, my daughter-in-law, uses Thieves diluted on my grandson's gums to help numb them from his teething difficulties. This solution is very dilute, with several drops of Thieves blend added to 5 ml. of vegetable oil. She then rubs a bit on his gums with he finger).
Internally:
if just taking a few drops, add it to a spoonful of rice or soy milk and drink it down. If taking more than a few drops put it in a vegi-cap. I sometimes put it in a capsule with Oregano or other essential oils, adding a few drops of vegetable oil to a vegi- capsule, then add 10-15 drops of whatever essential oils I am adding. Young Living makes Inner Defense, a capsule for ingestion that contains Thieves, Oregano, Thyme and Citronella essential oils - excellent for staying well at home and abroad! For strict vegetarians who prefer to avoid the use of gelatin capsules, make the capsules yourself, using vegi-caps, a few drops of (vegetable) carrier oil, and then your essential oils. I put about 8-10 drops each of Thieves and Oregano, and about 5-6 drops each of Thyme and Citronella.
When to use:
whenever traveling or I'm going to be around a lot of people, I use Thieves prophylactically, especially around cold/flu season. Any time I feel a little on the edge or am around someone who is unwell, I apply it with immediate, beneficial results (if possible, use it on them as well!). I used it on my son when he was coming down with stomach flu and it completely aborted the flu. I even used it once when I got some food poisoning while traveling, taking a few drops in water and drinking it. I began to improve immediately and was better within the hour. If someone has a deep cough, it can be applied over the lung area, front and back (using the above-mentioned topical use - with a carrier oil). Anytime you want some added immune support, think of Thieves!
I spend winter months in Mexico and got typhoid fever a couple years ago. I am very careful now about what I ingest, and whenever I eat outside my home I use the inner defense blend mentioned above that I make up in vegi-caps to support myself in the event that I have ingested any unwanted bacteria!
